Tom Tam is a world renowned Chi Gong Master and teacher, acupuncturist, and healer. He developed Tong Ren in the 1990s when one of his Tui Na students suddenly developed sciatic nerve pain. He did not have any available sterile acupuncture needles to treat her, so he took two new ones that had not yet been sterilized, drew a picture of the human body and put the needles in the points on the picture used to treat sciatic pain. Within a minute her pain started to disappear. This gave him the idea to incorporate this method of directing energy into his distance healing practice and research. He has modified the technique so that it may be used by anyone. He has since used this type of healing on thousands of patients in the US and abroad who present with a wide range of ailments – from cancers to MS, and from arthritis to weight loss – with excitingly positive results. He has taught many classes sharing this healing technique with others, and has seen the spread of Tong Ren practitioners globally. This rapid growth is driven by the satisfaction of the many Tong Ren patients who have experienced healing or improvements in their health.
Tong Ren is an energy healing therapy developed by Tom Tam as an integral part of the Tom Tam Healing System. It is based on the premise that illness is related to interruptions, or blockages, in the body’s natural flow of: blood, neural bioelectricity, blood, hormones and chi (life force energy). Most blockages can be manually identified along the spine where they inhibit the activity of the central nervous system. Tong Ren utilizes a universal energy source—the “collective unconscious,” in Jungian terms—to remove a patient’s blockages and restore the body’s natural ability to heal, even when illnesses are chronic, debilitating, or otherwise untreatable. Because no physical contact is involved or necessary, Tong Ren is often practiced as distance healing. In a typical session, the Tong Ren practitioner uses a lightweight, magnetic hammer to tap specific points on a small anatomical model of the human body, which serves as an energetic representation of the patient. The practitioner directs chi to blockage points corresponding to the patient’s condition, which breaks down resistance in those areas. As blood flow, neural transmission, and hormone reception are restored, the body is then able to heal. Tong Ren integrates elements of Medical Science and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to create a powerful new healing modality.
Tong in Chinese means bronze; Ren means man or human. Tong Ren can be translated as ‘bronze man’. In the Sung Dynasty (1023 AD), Emperor Ren Zhong Sung summoned the highest medical faculty of the Empire to write up the “New Bronze Man’s Points of Acupuncture Diagram and Note”. Dr. Wang Wei-yi was responsible for designing the acupuncture bronze man (human figure made by bronze). In 1027 AD, two identical bronze men were made, which were named Tong Ren (meaning “bronze man” in Chinese). Tong Ren Healing is an important component of the Tom Tam healing system. To commemorate the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pioneers for their invaluable contribution to the world on the medical front, “Tong Ren Healing”, an energy healing system developed by Tam was named after the acupuncture figure created by the TCM forerunners.
