Having stronger muscles (particularly those that surround the knee joint) can reduce the impact and stress on your knee, and help your knee joint move more easily.
-Quadriceps (consists of: vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, rectus femoris, & vastus medius) → extend the knee
-Hamstrings (consists of: biceps femoris, semitendinosis, semimembranosus) → flex the knee
-Popliteus → “unlocks” the fully extended knee joint to allow for flexion
-Sartorius → flexes the lower leg at the knee joint
-Gastrocnemius (aka “calf”) → flexes the lower leg at the knee joint
