Avoid overcompensation of muscles such as the hamstrings and quads by activating and strengthening the gluteal muscles. When these muscles aren’t firing, the surrounding muscles and joints (hip, knee, and ankle) bear too much of the force which could then lead to injury. Hip stability is anchored by glute strength, therefore weak glutes may lead to instability in the hips. Strong glutes help to propel our motion forward, however, weakness here allows for potential motion to be transferred from side to side thus making forward movement less efficient.
