Do you suffer from text neck?
Most of us know by now that posture plays a HUGE role when it comes to our overall health and wellness. It can also play a MAJOR role in muscle tightness.
“Text Neck” is a recent term used to describe neck pain caused by excessive flexion (looking down) associated with prolonged use of phone, laptop, and/or tablet usage. The resulting neck pain is often due to a chronic overuse of the muscles that are associated with holding this poor postural position. The weakened and/or lengthened deep cervical flexors struggle to maintain an upright posture against overactive and/or shortened posterior extensors structures, such as the trapezius. Subsequently, many people tend to experience tension headaches in addition to hypertonic (overly tight) muscles, particularly in the neck and upper back.
PRO TIP! You can help alleviate the symptoms you may be experiencing with stretching, massage, being more aware of your posture throughout the day and also taking breaks often if sitting a lot, as well as strengthening the posterior chain muscles. You can also call your friendly, neighborhood PT/Acu/Chiro clinic (*waves*) aka Kinetic Rehab & Spine and we’d be happy to help by setting you up with a FREE Pain & Stress Relief Consult with one of our experience, dedicated, and caring clinicians.
