Physical Therapists and their Patients During COVID-19

COVID-19 has completely disrupted our way of living. Going out, spending time with friends and even something as simple as going to the grocery store has become a hazard. Unfortunately, many people’s health has suffered. Many people are not able to get to their physical therapists in fear of contracting the virus. Fortunately, Kinetic physical therapists can help patients handle this pandemic.

Many Kinetic patients who were making great progress in physical therapy suddenly halted when COVID began and are anxious about losing their progress. Physical therapists have used their creativity in an outpatient setting to help their patients progress while following health officials’ guidelines. We have begun using telehealth to video chat with patients to guide them through their relevant exercises. We have created guidelines and packets for you to use. We have also sent out emails or messages just to check in with patients and many other creative solutions in order to assist patients while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

For physical therapists in a hospital or long-term care unit, they have been responsible for the rehabilitation of COVID-19 patients. Most of the COVID-19 patients are suffering from a condition called post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). PICS is characterized by mental, physical, and emotional symptoms that persist after the patient has left the intensive care unit. Physical therapists can help patients overcome physical hurdles and empower patients to tackle the mental and emotional toll of this illness.

How to keep healthy while staying at home

The increasingly sedentary lifestyles and diets filled with industrialized sugars and fats have made some people more fragile and susceptible to diseases such as COVID-19. Add to this the isolation standards were taken, and it is logical to think that our organism, especially our immune systems, has suffered great losses in terms of functionality.

For this and many other reasons, it is essential to stay healthy while staying at home to prevent similar situations in the future and be ready for whatever may come. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to maintain the most adequate nutrition possible, giving our body what it needs to obtain its activation and to fight not only viruses, but also bacteria, parasites, tumor cells, and other harmful agents.

An ideal diet would combine healthy animal proteins, vegetable proteins, such as chickpeas and other legumes, with high-in fiber. Eating fruits also is a great extra for this purpose. Being found in many foods or produced by the body, some nutritional elements scientifically studied like vitamins A, C, and D, zinc, selenium, resveratrol, Omega-3 fatty acids, coenzyme Q10, NAC, quercetin, etc., can be consumed daily through supplementation to strengthen a wide range of organs and systems.

Representing 60% of the total weight of the human body, water should be consumed at the highest level of purity and quality. By using water filters to purify it, drinking water infused with hydrogen, or consuming mineral water without carbonation, all our organisms will benefit.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through daily physical activity is a great way to build a strong immune system, a resilient cardiovascular system, and a fit musculoskeletal system. By using simple, inexpensive equipment, each person can exercise daily in the comfort of their own home. This would also reduce the stress level that negatively affects our bodies.
