Did You Know…? The Achilles tendon is the most common site of overuse injury in the lower extremity and is the MOST frequently ruptured tendon in the body?? This is primarily due to its limited blood supply and the high tensions that are placed on it.

It’s the largest and strongest tendon in the body. We are able to participate in movements such as standing on our toes when walking, running, or jumping because when the calf (gastrocnemius and soleus) muscles contract, the Achilles tendon pulls on the heel, thus initiating the aforementioned actions.
